There are various parts of your abdominal muscles that you need to target, specifically the upper abs, lower abs and the obliques. • CRUNCHES – Lie on the floor with your knees bent as far as they can go and arms crossed over your chest. Never put your hands behind your head as this can cause unnecessary strain on your neck. Once you are ready, draw your abdomen in towards your spine, tense your abdominal muscles and slowly lift your shoulders off the floor. There’s no need to raise your whole back, as this won’t add anything to your workout. Hold when you reach the top of your crunch, before slowly lowering your shoulder blades to the floor (don’t let you head touch the ground), and repeat.
  • SIT UPS – Similar to crunches, but different in that you need to sit all the way up. Lie on the floor again with your knees bent (but not so much as in crunches), and sit all the way up. Lower and repeat. When this becomes relatively easy, add other challenges such as doing them on an incline bench or when holding weights on your chest.
  • LEG LIFTS – Lie on the floor with your legs straight out. Slowly lift them straight up without bending at the knee, up to a 90 degree angle or as close as possible. Hold there for a few seconds, lower and repeat.
  • OBLIQUE SIT UPS – These can be attempted when you’ve mastered the regular sit ups, as obliques are usually harder to work out at first as they’re used less in daily life. For oblique sit ups, start as you would an ordinary one but twist on your way up so your elbow is extended towards the opposite knee. Lower down and repeat on the other side. Again, once you’re used to this you can graduate to performing these on in incline bench for an added hit.

These are some great exercises to add to your routine if you want to get six pack abs. But, focusing on abdominal exercises alone won’t give you the results you’re looking for. You could have forged the best six pack abs possible, but if there’s a layer of fat over them you’ll never be able to see them. That’s why dedicating some time in your routine to cardio and fat loss is critically important to get six pack abs. Make sure to include some cardio workouts such as running or swimming, as this will give your body the best chance possible to get rid of any unwanted fat.

Looking at your diet is just as important to get six pack abs. As any fitness professional will tell you, the route to a perfectly toned body is just as much about your diet as it is about your exercise routine. Again, a lot of it is to do with fat loss, so focus on calorie and fat reduction in an attempt to shift any unwanted pounds.

But, if you want to get six pack abs, it’s important to include a large amount of protein in your diet as well. Protein is what builds the muscle in your body, and without eating enough of it you’ll never see the results you’re looking for. Make sure that you have a larger proportion of protein in your diet than fat or carbs.

Great examples of foods to include are chicken, eggs, steak and oily fish. Have a balanced diet so you don’t get bored of what you’re eating, and for healthy snacks try some nuts, which are not only full of protein but have essential fats in them as well.

There are also various supplements, powders and pills out there that claim to help increase your muscle mass and can help you get six pack abs. A lot of them do actually do the job, but just make sure that you do your research and find the one that’s right for you. If you do, they can be a great addition to your routine and can help you to see results even quicker.

So, follow the tips above and you’ll be able to see results far quicker. Remember to ensure you have your fat burning exercise routine sorted, review and modify your diet, and you could also optionally choose to add any supplements you think can help you achieve your goal. Once this plan is in action, there is absolutely no reason why you can’t look in the mirror and see that sculpturally toned and well defined six pack abs you’ve always wanted.
